Gutter Cleaning in Hyde Park, Boise, Idaho

The bungalow roofs off 13th Street are steep, and they shed water fast into gutters that were sized in the 1920s for a much smaller tree canopy than the one standing over them today. Add maple and elm overhead and a downspout that disappears into the ground, and Hyde Park gutters clog differently than the rest of Boise.

Steep bungalow pitch puts all the water at one bottleneck

Most houses in Hyde Park are 1900s-1930s Craftsman bungalows and Victorians with steep gable pitches, wide overhanging eaves and shed dormers. A steep roof is good news in a storm because it sheds instead of holding, but all that volume arrives at the gutter line in a hurry, and the gutter is usually still the original four-inch or half-round profile rather than a modern six-inch K-style. Front porches make it worse. On a lot of these bungalows the porch roof drains straight into the same short gutter run that is already taking the main slope. Half an inch of packed debris in a four-inch trough on a roof like that is not a slow drip over the edge, it is a sheet of water off the front of the porch every time it rains, landing right where people walk.

The canopy drops three times a year, not once

The street trees over 13th, Eastman and Alturas do not unload on a single schedule. Elm samaras come down in March, maple keys in May, and the heavy leaf drop lands in October when the whole canopy lets go within a couple weeks. The spring debris is the sneaky part. Samaras and keys are small and light enough to wash down the trough and wedge in the downspout elbow instead of sitting visible in the run, so a May clog usually shows up at the outlet while the gutter itself still looks fine from the sidewalk. Add the shingle grit that comes off older composition roofs and you get a dense, wet mat rather than a pile of dry leaves. That is why we scoop and flush rather than blow a Hyde Park gutter out.

Downspouts here often disappear into the ground

A good share of these North End houses run their downspouts into buried drain tile that carries water out to the curb or the alley. Intact, it is a nice system. Root-invaded or crushed after a century, water backs up the downspout and the homeowner reasonably assumes the gutter is packed. We clear the run by hand and flush every downspout so you know which one you actually have. What we do not do is dig. If the blockage is below grade in the buried line, that is an excavation job, not a gutter cleaning, and we will tell you that instead of charging you to keep flushing a pipe that is broken. Side-yard downspouts four feet off a neighbor's wall and alley-side runs behind a detached garage are normal here and we plan the ladder work around them.

When your gutters do not need cleaning yet

Not every house here needs two visits a year. If your lot sits off the heavy street-tree line, or the big maple is across the street rather than over your roof, one clearing in November is plenty. Two things you can check from the ground. If debris is crowning above the front lip, or you see a green fuzz of maple seedlings sprouting out of the trough, it is packed and it is holding water. If the gutter looks clear but water still sheets over the front edge in a hard rain, that is almost always pitch or an undersized profile, not debris, and cleaning will not fix it. We would rather say that at the estimate than take the same job twice and have you call us again in March.

Pricing, access and scheduling in Hyde Park

Gutter cleaning starts at $199 for 1- and 2-story homes, which covers nearly every house in the neighborhood. We clear the runs by hand, bag the debris rather than dropping it in your beds, flush each downspout, and tell you what we found. Lots here are tight and a lot of garages sit off a rear alley, so let us know about street parking when you book and we will stage the truck accordingly. Monthly and Quarterly memberships save on every visit with no contract, and quarterly timing lines up naturally with the March, May and October drops. Every visit carries our 7-Day Rain Guarantee, and we usually have same-day or next-day slots. Gutter Cleaning in Hyde Park — Questions

Still wondering about something? Call or text us at (208) 453-6760.

How often do gutters actually need cleaning in Hyde Park?

If mature maples or elms hang over your roof, twice a year: once in late spring after the samaras and keys finish dropping, and once in November after the canopy is bare. If the big trees are across the street rather than above the house, once a year in November usually holds. The narrow original gutter profiles on these bungalows pack faster than a modern six-inch gutter, so err toward twice.

Do you walk on the roof? Mine is a steep bungalow gable.

No. On these pitches we work from ladders at the gutter edge and reach the rest with poles. Old composition shingle on a steep bungalow roof scuffs and cracks under foot traffic, especially in cold weather, and there is no version of a $199 gutter cleaning that is worth damaging your roof over. If a section genuinely cannot be reached safely, we will tell you before we start rather than after.

My downspout drains into the ground and backs up. Can you clear it?

We can clear the gutter run and flush the vertical downspout, which fixes it more often than people expect. If water still backs up after that, the clog is in the buried drain tile below grade, and on century-old lines that usually means roots or a crushed section. That is excavation work, not gutter cleaning. We will tell you which one you have so you are not paying us to flush a broken pipe twice a year.

Are gutter guards worth it under this much tree cover?

Honestly, they help less here than the marketing suggests. Coarse screens still let maple keys and elm samaras through, and fine mesh clogs on top with wet leaf mat and shingle grit, which turns a cleanable gutter into one you have to unscrew first. On a narrow half-round profile they also cut the effective opening. We will still clean over or under guards, but we would not tell you to install them to skip cleanings.

My lot is tiny and the garage is off the alley. Can you get set up?

Yes, that describes most of our Hyde Park jobs. We stage from the street or a narrow front yard, and we set ladder feet on solid ground rather than in flower beds or on porch rails. Alley-side runs behind a detached garage are routine. Tell us about street parking restrictions or alley access when you book and we will plan the truck around it.

Can you do gutters and windows on the same visit?

Yes, and it is the efficient way to do it here since we are already set up on a tight lot. Gutters start at $199 and are handled with standard cleaning methods, while windows are done with pure deionized water and no soap. Order matters: gutters first, then glass, so debris and runoff do not land on windows we just finished. Call (208) 453-6760 and we will price both on your actual house.
