Mineral Is the Half You Cannot Rinse Off

Deionized water dissolves it rather than redistributing it.

From the first disking in spring through the onion and sugar-beet lift in the fall, there are weeks at a time when the air carries a genuine load of field silt, and it does not settle politely — it arrives on a west wind and it arrives while your irrigation is still cycling. Dust landing on dry glass rinses off. Dust landing on a pane still damp from a sprinkler bonds into the mineral film and stops being dust at all. That is why a Nampa window cleaned in August can look untouched by the end of September, and it is an argument for timing the work to the harvest calendar rather than the human one. We would rather clean your windows in late October, after the lift, than in early September and watch it undo itself.

The Other Half of the Problem

Mineral is the half people notice. The other half is Canyon County field dust — spring disking, the summer hay and mint cuttings, and the fall onion, sugar-beet and silage harvest, carried on the west wind off the Snake River plain. Dust on its own rinses off. Dust that lands on a pane still damp from a sprinkler cycle does not — it beds into the mineral film and cements there, which is the real reason glass here goes from clean to visibly dirty faster than people expect. Soap makes it worse, because surfactant residue in the corners is tacky and collects the next round. We introduce no soap, so there is nothing left to catch it.

Reaching the Upper Glass in Fall River Estates
