What Actually Fills The Lake at Cherry Lane Gutters

Downspouts Are Where It Actually Fails

A gutter full of grit still mostly works. A plugged downspout does not — it backs water up the trough, over the front lip and down the fascia, and that is where the damage starts. If one will not clear, we tell you where the blockage is rather than declaring the job done. On a home this age the fasteners are worth a look too — thirty-year-old spikes back out of the fascia and let the trough pitch away from the outlet. Tiger Striping, and What It Means

Those vertical dark streaks down the face of the gutter are not dirt running off the roof. They are the bituminous binder washing out of the shingles and bonding to the gutter coating, and they will not come off with a rinse.
