Every attachment is a plastic clip on the gutter lip, shingle edge or ridge. Nothing gets stapled or nailed, and on the older homes here that is not a preference — a staple hole in painted wood fascia is a water path that shows up as blistered paint two summers later, long after whoever put it there has gone. Where a gutter is too old or too loaded to carry a wet strand, the run moves to the shingle edge instead.
