What Grows and Settles on Dallan Woods Siding

Exteriors here collect three separate things. On north and east elevations, where sun never fully dries the wall, you get algae and mildew as a green-black film. Along the bottom three feet you get mud splash and irrigation overspray staining — the same mineral that marks the glass marks the siding, and on light vinyl it reads as a permanent dingy band. Everywhere else you get Canyon County field dust — spring disking, the summer hay and mint cuttings, and the fall onion, sugar-beet and silage harvest, carried on the west wind off the Snake River plain. Each needs different treatment, which is why one pass with a pressure wand does a poor job on all three. Across about 73 acres the pattern barely varies here.

Soft Wash, Not Pressure

House washing is a chemical process, not a force one. We apply a surfactant and sodium-hypochlorite blend at low pressure, give it dwell time to kill the growth at the root, and rinse. High pressure drives water up behind lap joints and into the wall assembly, strips the chalking layer off aging vinyl, and on stucco and manufactured stone it will take the finish off outright. Soft washing kills the algae rather than knocking the top off it, which is why it stays gone longer. We pre-wet and rinse every bed on the wash path. Being this close to Lone Star means the road-facing elevation is always the one that needs the most attention.

The Nampa Variable

Two things drive this in Nampa: untreated canal water through the irrigation line, and Canyon County field dust — spring disking, the summer hay and mint cuttings, and the fall onion, sugar-beet and silage harvest, carried on the west wind off the Snake River plain. Separately each is manageable. Together they bond, and that is the condition we are actually treating on a Dallan Woods job. Dallan Woods routes off Lone Star, so getting here is not a special trip.

Doing It on One Visit

This pairs naturally with window cleaning, and doing both on one visit is cheaper than two trips — setup and drive time are most of the fixed cost. It is also better work: there is an order these jobs should happen in, and doing them on separate days usually means doing one of them twice.
