Mesh is a filter nobody changes, and up here it is filtering the most exposed air in the Eagle area. Sharp granite grit lodges in the weave, blocks light so daylight through the screen goes flat and grey, and abrades the strands whenever wind moves it — which stretches panels years before they should go baggy. Dry-brushing drags that abrasive straight through the weave and accelerates the damage.

The grit reaching these screens is sharp and mica-flecked rather than soft and powdery, and mesh is effectively a filter nobody ever changes. Lodged grit does two things: it blocks light, so the daylight through the screen goes flat and grey, and it abrades the strands every time wind moves it — which stretches mesh and leaves a panel baggy in its frame years before it should be. Dry-brushing a loaded screen drags that abrasive through the weave and makes it worse.

Screens come off the house, get flooded with pure deionized water so the abrasive is floating rather than grinding, then hand-washed and rinsed with no soap in the weave. Soap residue left in mesh grabs the next dust event and turns a clean screen dingy in a fortnight, which is the single most common reason a screen cleaning seems not to have worked. Every panel goes back into the exact opening it left, labeled, because frames do not reseat reliably anywhere else.
