That water is pulled off the canal system, and it carries everything a canal carries. Every cycle that reaches a pane deposits a little silt and a little dissolved mineral; every evaporation cycle concentrates what is already there. That is why the glass on one side of a house can be visibly worse than the other, and why it comes back so quickly after an ordinary wash. Deionized water, no soap, is the method that actually removes it rather than redistributing it.
