The Sprinklers Are Doing This, Not the Weather

Meridian's window problem is an irrigation problem. Settlers Irrigation District supplies it here, feeding the sprinklers on a separate back-lot line that never touches the city's treatment plant. That water is pulled off the canal system, and it carries everything a canal carries. Every cycle that reaches a pane deposits a little silt and a little dissolved mineral; every evaporation cycle concentrates what is already there. That is why the glass on one side of a house can be visibly worse than the other, and why it comes back so quickly after an ordinary wash. Deionized water, no soap, is the method that actually removes it rather than redistributing it.

Deposit Is Cumulative, and This Glass Has History

The homes in Settlement Bridge have taken on the order of fifteen to twenty-five irrigation seasons, and mineral deposit accumulates. For the first few years it rinses. Past year eight or so it bonds, and past that it etches — the deposit sits in microscopic pits it has eaten into the silica. Ordinary cleaning does not touch bonded mineral, which is why people here tell us the windows look clean but still haze in low afternoon light. Water-fed poles do most of it. The advantage is not only safety — rinsing at height with deionized water means the top of the pane gets the same treatment as the bottom, which is not true of a squeegee reached out at arm's length from a ladder. Where glass sits in an unavoidable spray pattern, a sacrificial sealant is worth discussing, and we will be straight that it wears off rather than lasting forever.

Dust, Wind and Why It Returns

Irrigation mineral is the half people notice. The other half is north Meridian's open-ground wind fetch, which still carries construction and field dust off the sections that have not been built yet. Dust on its own rinses off. Dust that lands on a pane still damp from a sprinkler cycle does not — it beds into the mineral film and cements there, which is the real reason Meridian glass goes from clean to visibly dirty faster than people expect. Soap makes it worse: surfactant residue left in the corners is tacky and collects the next round. We introduce no soap, so there is nothing left to catch it.

Screens Are the Usual Culprit

A screen is a filter, and it has been doing its job all summer. Canal silt dries in the weave and greys the whole view, so a perfectly clean pane behind a loaded screen still looks dirty. We would rather you added screens to the booking than paid for a window clean and felt it had not worked.
