What the Water Leaves on Indian Lake Glass

Ask anyone in Boise why their windows spot and the honest answer is the sprinklers. the New York Canal system and the Boise Project supplies untreated canal water to the irrigation line, and it is carrying both silt and dissolved mineral. On glass that dries into a ring you can see in low sun and feel with a fingernail. The culinary side does not help either — treated river and well water that is hard by any standard, which is why fixtures here scale even where sprinklers never reach the glass — so rinsing with a hose adds mineral rather than removing it. Pure water with no soap is the only method that takes the deposit off instead of smearing it and leaving a tacky film for the next cycle to stick to.

Thirty-Year-Old Seals Change How We Work

For weeks each winter the valley lid holds particulate at ground level, and it settles as a fine grey film that is not dirt in the ordinary sense and does not rinse off in a rain. Winter is genuinely a good time to have Boise glass cleaned, because the low sun angle shows every bit of it and because pure water does not freeze on the pane at the temperatures we will work in.

What Removing Soap Actually Changes

Streaks are a soap problem. Surfactant residue left in the corners and along the frame line is what you see when low sun hits a window two days after a cleaning, and it is also what the next dust settles onto. Because we never introduce soap there is nothing to leave behind. Interior condensation is a separate matter — that is indoor humidity meeting cold glass, and no cleaning changes it.
