Why Sunset Rim Windows Spot

The mineral on Sunset Rim glass does not come from the sky. It comes from the New York Canal system and the Boise Project, which delivers untreated surface water to the sprinklers on a separate line, and it is compounded by treated river and well water that is hard by any standard, which is why fixtures here scale even where sprinklers never reach the glass. Every irrigation cycle that reaches a window deposits a little silt and a little dissolved mineral, and every evaporation concentrates what is already there. Over a season it bonds; past that it begins to etch the glass itself. This is why an ordinary wash looks fine on the day and hazy again within weeks — the deposit was never removed, only wetted. Deionized water dissolves it rather than redistributing it.

Deposit Is Cumulative, and This Glass Has History

Two decades of sprinkler cycles have left most Sunset Rim panes with a mineral history rather than mineral dirt, and only one of those comes off. A deposit that has bonded but not yet etched responds to a dedicated dissolver and mechanical work; glass that has etched has lost surface and no product restores it. We check before quoting rather than after, and where a pane is gone we say so.

Foothills Grit and the Winter Inversion

Boise glass carries something the rest of the valley does not: foothills grit. Decomposed granite off the slope is sharp and fine, it travels on the afternoon downslope wind, and in winter the valley inversion holds everything else down at ground level with it. Two things make Boise different from the cities west of it. The first is the foothills: decomposed granite is a sharp, fine grit, and on a downslope wind it reaches glass that no farm dust ever would. It is the reason we are careful about dry-wiping anything in the Bench and foothills neighborhoods — grit plus a dry cloth is how glass gets scratched. The second is the inversion. For weeks each winter the valley lid holds particulate at ground level, and it settles as a fine grey film that is not dirt in the ordinary sense and does not rinse off in a rain. Winter is genuinely a good time to have Boise glass cleaned, because the low sun angle shows every bit of it and because pure water does not freeze on the pane at the temperatures we will work in.

Sprinkler Aim Is Half the Answer

We will walk your irrigation heads with you and show you which ones are clipping glass. Mineral that never lands is mineral we never have to remove, and a customer whose windows stay clean longer calls us back. Where glass sits in an unavoidable spray pattern a sacrificial sealant is worth discussing, and we will be straight that it wears off rather than lasting forever.

What We Do Not Do

We do not do rope access or high-rise work, we do not repair or replace windows, and we do not re-screen. We cannot remove etching, and we will tell you when that is what you have rather than selling a polish that will not change it. Frames, Tracks, Sills and Screens

Exterior service covers the glass, the frame and the exterior sill. Tracks are where irrigation silt actually accumulates — it washes down the pane, settles in the bottom track and sets up like thin grout over a season. We clear that rather than cleaning the glass above it and leaving the track packed. Screens hold the same silt in the mesh, which is why a freshly cleaned window behind a dirty screen still reads grey.
