Mineral Is the Half You Cannot Rinse Off

Ask anyone in Caldwell why their windows spot and the honest answer is the sprinklers. the Caldwell Municipal Irrigation District, with storage held by Pioneer Irrigation District supplies untreated canal water to the irrigation line, and it is carrying both silt and dissolved mineral. On glass that dries into a ring you can see in low sun and feel with a fingernail. The culinary side does not help either — Caldwell's groundwater supply, which is hard enough that most households here see scale on fixtures long before they notice it on glass — so rinsing with a hose adds mineral rather than removing it. Pure water with no soap is the only method that takes the deposit off instead of smearing it and leaving a tacky film for the next cycle to stick to.

Deposit Is Cumulative, and This Glass Has History

Two decades of sprinkler cycles have left most Stone Creek panes with a mineral history rather than mineral dirt, and only one of those comes off. A deposit that has bonded but not yet etched responds to a dedicated dissolver and mechanical work; glass that has etched has lost surface and no product restores it. We check before quoting rather than after, and where a pane is gone we say so.

Caldwell is one of the few cities in the valley that runs its own irrigation district — the Caldwell Municipal Irrigation District delivers untreated surface water to yards across town, and a lot of the older grid is still on gravity rather than pressure. What reaches the glass is canal water either way. Caldwell is really two cleaning problems wearing one city's name. The old grid around Indian Creek and downtown is pre-war and early-post-war housing: original wood sashes in places, single-pane and storm windows, mature trees dropping sap and tannin, and gravity irrigation running in ditches rather than pressurised pipe. The newer subdivisions on the south and west edges are production builds from the last twenty years with big rear glass packages, tight lots and pressurised sprinklers throwing canal water directly onto the windows. The same company should be able to do both, but not with the same method — one is careful hand work around failing glazing putty, the other is pole work and mineral removal. Frequency, Honestly

Twice a year suits most homes here — once after the spring dust and pollen, once at the end of the irrigation season when the mineral load is highest. Homes with glass directly in a sprinkler pattern want the more frequent end of that until the heads get adjusted. Homes whose glass is shielded can often go annually. We are not going to sell you a quarterly plan you do not need.

Screens Are the Usual Culprit

The most common call we get after a cleaning is that the windows still look grey from inside. Nine times out of ten the glass is fine and the screen in front of it is carrying a season of silt in the weave. Mesh is rough and holds far more than smooth glass does. Screen cleaning is a $50 add-on alongside a window service for that reason — pulled, washed flat, dried and reseated in the same openings.
