Why Sherbrooke Hollows Has a Hard Water Problem Specifically

The thing that shapes this job most is that Sherbrooke Hollows is twenty-odd years old, recorded 1998–2001 across 4 phases (ZIP 83642, about 56 acres). This is the service Meridian needs more than any other city we work, and pressurized irrigation is the reason. Sprinkler water comes off the Boise Project Board of Control's system, not the city main. That is untreated canal water, and it is carrying both suspended silt and dissolved calcium and magnesium. When a sprinkler head throws onto a window, the water sheets, evaporates in the dry valley air, and leaves the mineral behind as a ring. The next cycle lands on top of it. Over a season that becomes a bonded scale; over a decade or more it becomes etching, where the mineral has eaten microscopic pits into the silica and is now sitting inside them. The city's own culinary supply is hard as well — City of Meridian culinary water, which the city puts at about seven grains per gallon — so hose-rinsing does not help either. We see it most consistently on the homes along E Mackay Dr.

How the Restoration Actually Works

It is not a harder scrub. We use a dedicated mineral dissolver matched to the deposit, held in contact long enough to break the bond, then work it with a non-abrasive pad and neutralize before rinsing. Frames, seals and any adjacent stone or stucco get masked, because the products that cut mineral will also etch an aluminum frame and burn a seal. For heavy cases we step up to a fine cerium polish, which is genuinely slow work and priced accordingly. On tempered glass we are more cautious still — tempered surfaces mark in ways annealed glass does not. If you are on E Lake Creek Dr or one of the streets off it, we are likely already working nearby.

Keeping It From Coming Straight Back

Restoration without changing the cause buys you one season. The real fix in Sherbrooke Hollows is sprinkler aim. We will walk the heads with you and show you which ones are clipping glass — most of the time it is two or three heads doing nearly all the damage, and a quarter turn on each solves it. Beyond that, cleaning with pure water rather than soap matters, because soap film is tacky and gives the next mineral cycle something to hold onto. Where glass sits directly in an unavoidable spray pattern, a sacrificial sealant is worth discussing — it does not last forever and we will not pretend it does. Sherbrooke Hollows is inside our standard 83642 service area — no travel surcharge.

Serving Sherbrooke Hollows and the Streets Around It

Sherbrooke Hollows is on our regular Meridian route, not a special trip. We already work E Mackay Dr, S Ketchum Way, E Lake Creek Dr and E Sagemoor Dr inside the subdivision. It routes off Overland, which is how we keep travel out of the price. We schedule by area rather than by first-come, which keeps drive time down and means we can hold prices where they are. It also means there is usually a crew working within a few streets of you most weeks of the season.

The Honest Limits

We cannot remove etching — that is lost glass, not a deposit, and no product restores it. We test a pane before quoting so you know which you have. Where the answer is replacement we say so and do not take the job. Saying this plainly costs us the occasional booking and saves everybody the version where you find out on the day.

Hard Water Stain Removal in Sherbrooke Hollows — Questions

Still wondering about something? Call or text us at (208) 453-6760.

Will the stains definitely come off?

Honestly, sometimes not. Deposit comes off. Etching does not — that is damage to the glass, not something on it. We test a pane before quoting so you know which one you have before you spend anything.

Why is this priced per pane instead of per house?

Because the work varies enormously pane to pane. One window facing a sprinkler head can take twenty times the labour of the one next to it. Pricing per affected pane means you pay for the panes that actually need it.

Can I just use vinegar or a razor?

Vinegar is too weak for bonded Meridian scale and a razor on dry glass — especially tempered glass — leaves scratching that is permanent and more visible than the stain was. We would rather you called and let us test it.

How often does this need doing?

Once, if the sprinkler aim gets corrected afterward. If the heads keep hitting the glass, expect to be back in a year or two. That is why we spend time on the heads.
