Original fascia is the constraint, not the height

Most of the district runs one and two-story bungalow and cottage stock at modest heights, so reach is rarely the problem. The material is. A lot of these homes still carry half-round or box gutters that were never sized for the load they now take, hung on fascia that has been in service for a century. We do not lean ladders against soft old fascia and we do not put a fastener anywhere near it — clips seat on the gutter lip where it is sound, and on the shingle edge or ridge where it is not. Front elevations here are usually three or four separate measured runs rather than one line, between porch roofs, dormers and additions built across decades.

Mature grid canopy and an October gutter problem

The old grid is shaded by mature silver maple, elm and sycamore, and that canopy is the reason these gutters clog. Through October and November the leaf and seed load comes down heavy into half-round and box profiles with a fraction of the capacity of a modern six-inch run. A light strand clipped over a packed trough sits in standing water as soon as the temperature drops, and on a house with painted wood fascia that is precisely where you do not want ice forming. If the gutters have not been cleared, say so at the quote — we will sequence the two jobs rather than hanging over a full trough and hoping.

Clips only, and that rule is not negotiable on a house this old

Every attachment point is a plastic clip. No staples, no nails, no screws, no adhesive — and on Old Nampa Historic District the reason is sitting right in front of you. Painted wood fascia that has been in service since before Nampa had paved most of these streets is a water path waiting to happen: a staple hole takes on moisture, freezes, and you find out two summers later when the paint blisters and the board underneath is soft. There is no box of lights to buy and no second invoice in January. The honest limit: if your house is a single-story with a straight, reachable front eave and you are genuinely steady on a ladder, hanging your own is a reasonable weekend project and we would rather say so here than after a quote. Booking, weather, and why October matters here

Call in October or the first week of November. Installs go cleanest on a dry roof above freezing, and routes genuinely fill by mid-November — we install through December for late deciders, but the good pre-Thanksgiving slots go first.
