Canal silt carried in sprinkler overspray dries in the weave, and because the mesh is rough it holds far more of it than the glass does. Add the west-side farm ground along Black Cat and McDermott, which throws field dust east across these roofs every time it is disked or cut and pollen, and within a season the screen is carrying a grey load you can see through a freshly cleaned window. That is the complaint we hear most: 'you cleaned the glass but it still looks hazy.' It is almost always the screen. We see it most consistently on the homes along N Rustic Oak Way.
Scrubbing a screen in its opening pushes the silt deeper into the weave and flexes the frame.
