Val Vista is one of the older subdivisions on this side of town, recorded 1991–1993 in two phases (ZIP 83642, about 79 acres). A solar panel is a piece of glass mounted at a shallow angle with nothing above it, which makes it the best dust collector on the property. In Meridian it catches valley dust, plus the winter inversion that holds particulate down at ground level for weeks at a time, and then — the part people do not expect — it catches pressurized irrigation overspray. Canal water on a warm panel evaporates fast and leaves exactly the bonded mineral film it leaves on windows, except here it sits directly in the light path. Soiling losses on a neglected valley array are not trivial, and the panels at the low edge of the array, where runoff concentrates, are usually the worst.
