Bench weather sets the schedule

The bench that gives Iron Mountain Vista its views also gives it colder overnight air and more wind exposure than the sheltered streets closer to the river. For holiday lighting that translates into two hard realities. First, frost: a north-facing plane up here can hold a glaze well into the morning, and cold shingle tabs crack when a clip is forced under them, so our safe working window on a fall day is shorter than it is in central Star. Second, wind: dry gusts coming across the open hillside will find any slack in a light line, so exposed runs get clips spaced tighter than they would on a calm interior street. Both push the same direction — we want Iron Mountain Vista rooflines hung in October or the first week of November, while shingles are warm, dry, and forgiving.

Two-story production rooflines, measured properly

Homes up here are almost all recent two-story production builds: a gable over the entry, a second-story eave, a garage return at a lower height, and big fixed glass facing the view. The front elevation stacks two or three separate roof heights, and every height change is its own ladder set, its own cut length, and its own clip type — which is why a real quote comes from measuring your eaves, rakes, and returns, not from square footage. If your section went up after 2021 you may have black window frames and darker trim, and C9s read especially sharp against that palette, but the light plan is driven by the roofline, not the trim color. We walk the elevation, mark where runs start and end, and give you a per-roofline number for your actual house before anything goes up.

Commercial-grade sets, clipped on — never fastened

We supply the lights: commercial-grade C9 or mini LED strands, cut to your measured roofline and labeled by section — front eave, rakes, garage return — so the same system goes back up faster every year. We don't hang customer-owned lights, and the reason is boring and practical: store strands a few seasons old fail, usually in mid-December, and we can't warranty hardware we didn't supply. Attachment is plastic clips only, gripping the gutter lip along the eaves and the shingle edge up the rakes. No staples, no nails, no screws, no adhesive. On new construction still under its original roofing and unguarded K-style gutters, that clip-only rule is what lets the whole display come off in January without leaving a trace it was there.

The honest math on single-story plans

Not every house up here needs us. Iron Mountain Vista carries some single-level and lower-pitch plans among the two-stories, and if yours is one of them — a walkable eave height, no tall gable — then a careful homeowner with a step ladder can reasonably hang that roofline themselves, and we'd rather say so than quote it like it's hard. What a DIY weekend doesn't come with is the rest of the season: custom-cut commercial strands instead of aging store sets, someone to call when a section goes dark in December, takedown in January when the ladder is the last place anyone wants to be, and storage so the garage shelf stays clear. Plenty of single-story customers hire us for exactly that bundle, and that's a fair trade. The two-story elevations are a different conversation — those gables genuinely aren't a homeowner-ladder job.

Booking, timing, and what's in the number

The season runs on a simple clock: book October through the first week of November, lights up and sitting dark before Thanksgiving, routes full by mid-November, and December installs available for late deciders when the weather opens a workable window — which on this bench it doesn't always do. The per-roofline quote covers the whole cycle: the lights, the install, mid-season fixes at no charge if a section goes dark, takedown in January, and off-season storage with an inspection before next fall.
