Here's the part homeowners get wrong: never staple or nail a strand into fascia or shingles. Timing matters more here than in most of the country. From late November the valley locks into inversion, a low stratus deck, freezing fog that rimes north- and northwest-facing roofs, and ice that turns a 6:12 pitch into a real hazard. Lights go up fast on a dry, above-freezing roof and slowly on a fogged one. Meridian's prevailing winds run the northwest-to-southeast axis, and post-frontal northwest gusts are the most common event, so we anchor the runs on your exposed west and northwest gables, where a loose strand would otherwise sag or tear free by January. The practical takeaway: book by early-to-mid November. You'll have lights lit before the freeze, before the December scramble, and while the roofs are still dry enough to work safely.
Straight talk: if you own a single-story ranch along Cherry Lane, Ustick or Franklin, with front eaves you can reach from a step ladder and steady footing to do it, hanging your own ground-floor run is a fine weekend project. A box of clips and an outdoor timer covers most of it. Where hiring out earns its keep is the two-story work: the great-room gable, second-story peaks, and steep runs you'd need an extension ladder or a walk on the roof to reach. On Meridian's compact lots that ladder often has to stand in a flowerbed or a four-foot side yard, which is exactly the footing you don't want to improvise 20 feet up.
