Height, Complexity and Exposure at Once

A 3,848 square foot two-story with an RV-height bay presents multiple roof planes at different heights, prominent gables, and an attached bay gable that is often taller than the main entry. Add exposure to wind coming off open ground toward the Snake River Canyon with nothing to slow it, and you have a roofline that needs both careful design and deliberate attachment density. This is not a job to attempt from a domestic ladder, and the January takedown happens on the same roofline in worse weather.

The RV Bay Gable Is Usually the Feature

On these plans the RV bay gable is frequently the tallest and most prominent element of the elevation, and it is also the one most often left dark because it sits to one side and reads as a garage rather than as part of the house. Lit properly it is the strongest line on the front of the building. Whether to include it is a design decision worth making deliberately rather than by default, and it is part of the walk-through before anyone measures.

Wind Exposure Means Attachment Density, Not Hope

A clip spacing that holds in sheltered central Kuna will work loose on an exposed Rockaway Cove gable. The answer is more clips at closer spacing on the windward elevations and the correct clip profile for each edge, which costs a little more labour and is the difference between a roofline that stays straight through January and a run you are calling about in December. Commercial-grade strands also matter here, because retail strings are not built for sustained wind loading.

We Supply, Service and Store the Set

The lights are ours. Commercial-grade LED strands rated for outdoor winter service, cut to your roofline, with a timer included and mid-season service if a run fails. On a house this size the set is a substantial amount of material, and we take it down in January, service it and store it through the summer, so it is not occupying a bay of the garage you bought for an RV.

Clips Only, and Gutters First

Everything attaches with clips on the shingle edge or gutter lip, so nothing is driven into fascia, shingles or trim on a house this new. Clips load the gutter lip, so condition matters: large two-story rooflines here carry substantial gutter runs filling with fine desert silt and first-years granule that compacts and holds moisture against hangers. We cannot clear a gutter once lights are on it, so gutters go first. Book in September or October.
