That mix decides how the house gets washed. Vinyl handles cleaner fine but streaks if you rinse it in patches instead of wall by wall, top to bottom, keeping a wet edge. Hardboard and engineered lap is where houses get wrecked - the butt joints and the bottom drip edge will take on water if you hit them with a narrow pressure tip, and once a seam swells it does not go back. Everything here gets soft washed at roughly garden-hose pressure, with the cleaning solution and dwell time doing the work instead of force.
First thing we check on a Greenmont house is the lowest three or four feet of siding. New sod and starter beds mean irrigation running most mornings through the first several summers, and Caldwell water off the Snake River Plain aquifer is genuinely hard. The south and west walls have the opposite problem: high-desert UV oxidizes vinyl and painted hardboard into a powdery chalk. Washing removes the dirt sitting on top of the chalk, which brightens the wall, but chalk is the siding surface breaking down. No cleaner reverses that.
Here is a test you can run yourself before calling anyone. Wet a white rag and drag it firmly down the sunniest wall. If the rag comes back gray-brown, that is dirt and pollen and a wash will fix it. If it comes back coated in dry white powder, that is oxidation, and the most a wash does is even it out - the long-term answer is an oxidation treatment or paint, and we will say so rather than sell you a wash that disappoints. It can, and we see it. A narrow high-pressure tip drives water into the butt joints and under the bottom drip edge of engineered lap siding, and a swollen seam does not recover. We soft wash instead - low pressure, closer to a garden hose, with the cleaner doing the lifting during dwell time. Vinyl is more forgiving, but the same method keeps it from streaking.
