On concrete poured in the last couple of years you'll see chalky white patches, usually near the garage apron or tracking along the control joints. That's efflorescence - mineral salts wicking up through curing concrete and drying on the surface. It's normal on new construction, and it's worth knowing two things before you pay anyone to remove it. First, it usually rinses off. Second, it usually comes back at least once more while the slab finishes curing, so a homeowner who washes it in month four may see it again by month eight. That's the slab, not the wash. We also won't pressure wash concrete that's under about 30 days old - green concrete hasn't gained enough surface strength, and cleaning it early leaves permanent damage no amount of later work will hide.

Field Silt, Bare Lots, and the West Wind
