First, the west and south walls take a full unshaded afternoon out here because there is no mature tree canopy yet on this ground — the trees are all builder-planted and young. Sun-side paint and painted fiber cement eventually chalk, and chalk is oxidized coating, not soil. Washing removes the loose chalk and evens the wall out, but it cannot restore color; if the surface is far enough gone, the honest answer is that it needs repainting and we will tell you so instead of selling you a wash that disappoints. Second, this subdivision still backs onto working field ground on the prevailing northwest-wind side, so the fine tan farm dust that films the windows here also films the siding, especially during fall corn chopping. That part does come off easily.
