Wind off open fields changes how we hang a line

A strand of C9s on a sheltered in-town eave mostly just has to look straight. On the field-backed side of Heirloom Ridge, it also has to stay put through a winter of wind coming off open crop ground with no rooftops or windbreaks in the way. That's a clip-spacing problem, and we solve it by tightening the interval — more clips per run on exposed eaves and rakes, so the line can't develop slack for the wind to work on. A run that lifts and slaps in every gust is how sockets fail and how clips walk loose by January. Everything still attaches with plastic clips only, gripping the gutter lip or the shingle edge — no staples, no nails, no screws, no adhesive — the exposure just means we're more deliberate about where each clip lands than we'd need to be a mile deeper into Star.

Bigger homes, longer rooflines, real measurements

Heirloom Ridge runs larger custom and semi-custom homes on half-acre-class lots — taller entry elevations, longer eave runs, and rooflines that step through more height changes than Star's standard production stock. Every height change is a new ladder set and a new cut length, which is why we measure the actual eaves, rakes, and returns on your elevation instead of quoting off square footage. The lights are ours: commercial-grade C9 or mini LED strands, custom-cut to those measurements and labeled section by section. We don't hang customer-owned or store-bought sets — on rooflines this long, one aging strand failing takes a big visible stretch of the house dark with it, and we can't warranty lights we didn't supply. Cut-to-length runs also mean the corners land where the architecture says they should, instead of a factory 25-foot strand deciding where the slack goes.

Book in October — this edge of Star frosts first

Cold air settles over open ground, and Heirloom Ridge sits against exactly that kind of ground. Roof planes out here frost earlier in the fall and hold it later into the morning than homes closer to Star's built-up core, and frost is the real constraint on this work: cold shingle tabs crack when a clip is forced under them, and nobody should be working a frosted second-story rake. So the window that works is October through the first week of November. The lights go up dark and wait on the house — most families flip them on Thanksgiving week. Routes fill by mid-November, and we do keep installing through December for late deciders, but a December install on this edge of Star means waiting on a dry, warm-enough morning that doesn't always show up. Booking early buys a safe roof, not an early Christmas.

New streets, new construction, and the honest limits

Parts of Heirloom Ridge are still building out, and that comes with practical wrinkles we'd rather name now than discover on install day. Some of the newest streets aren't fully finished with curb and sidewalk, some field-side lots have ditches or fencing along the property line that affect ladder staging, and if your address is new enough that GPS argues about it, tell us when you book. Also check your CC&Rs before we cut anything — communities like this commonly set windows for when decorations go up and come down, and some address color on street-facing elevations. We don't guess at your association's rules; get them in writing and we build to them. And one more honest note: we hang rooflines. If what you really want lit is a tall window wall or the back of the house facing the field, we'll tell you plainly what reads from the street and what doesn't before you spend money on it.

One quote, whole season

Pricing is quoted per roofline after we've seen the house, because a stepped two-story elevation out here and a modest ranch closer to town are not remotely the same job. The quote covers everything the season asks for: the custom-cut lights themselves, the install, mid-season service — if a section goes dark in December, call and we come fix it at no charge — takedown in January inside whatever removal window your CC&Rs set, and storage of your labeled sets through the off-season, inspected before they go back up next fall. Year two is faster and cleaner because the cut lengths already fit your house.
