Why Sombra Canyon Screens Grey Out

Screen mesh is a filter, and here it filters irrigation. Silt carried in sprinkler overspray dries in the weave, and because the mesh is rough it holds far more of it than the glass does. Add decomposed granite off the foothills, plus the winter inversion that traps particulate at ground level for weeks at a time and pollen and within a season the screen carries a grey load you can see through a freshly cleaned window. That is the complaint we hear most: 'you cleaned the glass but it still looks hazy.' It is almost always the screen. Across about 288 acres the pattern barely varies here.

Pulled, Washed Flat, Reseated

Scrubbing a screen in its opening pushes silt deeper into the weave and flexes the frame. We pull each one, wash it flat on a padded surface so the mesh is supported, rinse from both sides, dry it and reseat it in the same opening it came from. Screens are not interchangeable — a frame that has sat in one opening for fifteen years has taken that opening's shape. We do not charge for a screen we cannot clean, and we will tell you which are too brittle to pull. Being this close to Beacon Light means the road-facing elevation is always the one that needs the most attention.

The Boise Variable

Boise glass carries something the rest of the valley does not: foothills grit. Decomposed granite off the slope is sharp and fine, it travels on the afternoon downslope wind, and in winter the valley inversion holds everything else down at ground level with it. That is the honest reason we push timing as hard as we push method: doing this work at the right point in the Boise season is worth more than doing it more often at the wrong one. Sombra Canyon routes off Beacon Light, so getting here is not a special trip.

What It Pairs With

This pairs naturally with a window service, and doing both on one visit is cheaper than two trips — setup and drive time are most of the fixed cost. It is also better work: there is an order these jobs should happen in, and doing them on separate days usually means doing one of them twice.

Serving Sombra Canyon and the Streets Around It

Sombra Canyon is on our regular Boise route, not a special trip. We already work N Hwy 55 and N Mount Shadow Ln inside the subdivision. It routes off Beacon Light, which is how we keep travel out of the price. If you can tell us the nearest cross street we can usually quote without a site visit. Where a property is unusual — a lot of divided lites, difficult access, a steep lot — we would rather come and look than guess.
