Most of the newer window-cleaning pitches in Meridian lean on construction silt — the pale film that recoats a house near an open dirt phase. That isn't Settlers Bridge. This subdivision filled in and grew its trees a long time ago; there's no graded lot next door throwing dust. What you've got instead sits at a section-line intersection. Ustick and Meridian Road are two of the busier arterials in north Meridian, and where a home fronts or backs one of them, brake dust, tire film and road grit blow onto the glass and the frames. Post-frontal northwest wind, the most common high-wind pattern in the valley, drives it hardest onto west and northwest elevations. It's a slower, steadier kind of dirt than a jobsite throws, but on the roadside rows of the neighborhood it's the reason the outside glass never looks quite clean for long.
The windows here are first-generation vinyl. Settlers Bridge was platted around the turn of the 2000s, so the double-hungs and sliders are now twenty-plus years old — white or almond frames, a few with grids sealed between the panes, tall great-room glass on the back elevation. Two things come with that age. The frames have sun-baked and chalked, so they need a wipe, not just a squeegee pass on the glass. It depends on which side of the neighborhood you're on. A house fronting or backing Ustick or Meridian Road picks up road grit steadily and does better on a quarterly cadence. A quieter interior lot away from the arterials can often go twice a year.
