Around late May into June the seed fluff comes off in sheets, and on a metal roof it does not stick around on the panels; it rides the first rain straight into the gutter and packs into a dense wet mat, then dries into something closer to felt than to loose debris. A gutter that was clear in April can be holding water by the Fourth of July. These are commercial-scale infill lots, and the buildings sit close to the line, so downspouts usually run in the narrow slot between two structures or down a corner beside a roll-up or garage bay. That creates two real problems. First, the outlet at the top of the downspout is the pinch point on a metal-roof building, because whole leaves arrive intact instead of pre-shredded and bridge the opening. Second, a lot of these runs tie into a buried drain line or a splash pad on gravel rather than daylighting onto lawn. We check flow at the bottom of every downspout before we call a job done, and we clear the outlet from the gutter side rather than just skimming the trough, which is where a fast job usually leaves the clog.
Worth saying plainly: not every building here needs a cleaning when the owner thinks it does. Two honest checks. During a real rain, stand at ground level and watch the downspout outlets. If water is leaving them with force and nothing is sheeting over the front edge of the gutter, the trough is doing its job and you can wait. And if you can see the roof edge from a window or the street, look at the fascia and the wall below the gutter line: clean fascia with no dark staining or streaking means it has not been overflowing. The one case where those checks lie to you is a clogged buried drain line. That will back a clean gutter up and overflow it, and cleaning the gutter will not fix it. Scooping and flushing is the standard job. The exterior face of the gutter, where you get those vertical black streaks, is a separate add-on because it takes a different pass and different chemistry.
