What to Do Before the Crew Arrives

Exterior: access is the only thing that matters

Unlock side gates or provide a code, secure dogs, and move vehicles off the driveway if flatwork is being cleaned. Pause the irrigation controller for the day, because a zone firing mid-job puts hard water straight back onto fresh glass. That is the entire list, and a locked gate is the most common reason an elevation gets missed.

Interior: clear the sills and the path

Take ornaments, plants and photo frames off the sills, and make sure there is a route to each window. Crews will protect flooring, but they will not move heavy furniture, and a window behind a full bookcase or a bed pushed to the wall simply cannot be reached. If a piece needs moving, moving it beforehand is what gets that window cleaned.

Blinds, curtains and delicate things

Raise blinds and draw curtains back. Very old, fragile or expensive window coverings are better taken down by you than handled by someone unfamiliar with them. The same goes for anything genuinely irreplaceable near a window: put it somewhere else for the morning.

What does not matter

You do not need to clean anything first, remove screens, or be present for exterior work. You do not need to provide water, power or supplies. And you do not need to hover. For interior work someone over 18 does need to be there, but they do not need to follow the crew around.
